Eight Core Parameters in Energy Storage Systems

2025-01-02

1.System capacity (kWh)

System capacity is one of the most important parameters in the energy storage system, which indicates the maximum amount of electricity that can be charged and discharged by the energy storage system according to the rated power, the unit is kilowatt hour (kWh) or megawatt hour (MWh).

2.Battery capacity (Ah)

Battery capacity is one of the important performance indicators to measure the performance of the battery, the capacity of the battery has a rated capacity and the actual capacity of the battery, under certain conditions (discharge rate, temperature, termination voltage, etc.) the amount of electricity discharged by the battery is called the rated capacity (or nominal capacity), the capacity of the common unit Ah.

3. System efficiency (%)

System efficiency indicates the efficiency of energy conversion from charging to discharging process of the battery, the higher the efficiency percentage, means that in the process of energy conversion, the less energy loss.

4. Charging and discharging times

Charging and discharging times represent the life of the battery, referring to the number of charging and discharging cycles that can be completed before the capacity of the battery drops to a certain percentage.

  • Battery discharge multiplier (C)

Battery discharge multiplier indicates the battery charging and discharging capacity multiplier, usually expressed in C. The energy storage capacity is discharged in 1 hour, known as 1C discharge; discharged in 2 hours, known as 1/2 = 0.5C discharge. Generally you can detect the capacity of the battery by different discharge current.

  • State of Charge (SOC)

State of Charge (SOC) refers to the ratio of the remaining capacity of the battery after a period of use or a long period of time without use to its fully charged capacity, usually expressed as a percentage, which is simply the battery's remaining power.

  • Battery state of health (SOH)

The state of health of the battery (SOH for short) indicates the ability of the current battery to store electrical energy relative to a new battery, referring to the ratio of the current battery's full charge energy to the new battery's full charge energy.SOH represents the health of the battery, and is an important indicator for evaluating the remaining life of the battery.

  • Depth of charge and discharge (DOD)

Depth of charge/discharge (DOD) is used to measure the percentage between the amount of battery discharge and the rated capacity of the battery. For the same battery, the depth of DOD set is inversely proportional to the cycle life of the battery, the deeper the depth of discharge, the shorter the cycle life of the battery.
